Major Online Gambling Industry Events that Took Place in 2011

There were many notable events that occurred in the online gambling industry in 2011.  One of the most significant events that took place occurred on April 14th, when the U.S. Department of Justice seized the domain names and bank accounts of three of the world’s largest internet poker rooms - Absolute Poker, Full Tilt Poker and Poker Stars.  This had a hugely negative impact on the online casino industry in America, with many online gambling operators switching to other domains that were not dotcom.

Other major headlines included software gaming provider Playtech successfully establishing an impressive number of acquisitions and partnerships, including acquiring the mobile specialist Mobenga, among other notable achievements.  That said, unlike Playtech, Cryptologic didn’t have a great year and at the end of it all only turned out mediocre results.

The European internet gambling market had also experienced plenty of events throughout 2011. Among these was the attempt to eradicate state owned gambling monopolies, which is likely to have the highest effect on Germany and Greece.
