Atlantic City Gambling Revenues Fall Below Expectations

January was a disappointing month for Atlantic City casinos, with revenues below last year's figures.

Gambling operators have been disappointed by the release of the latest performance report from the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (NJDGE).

According to the report, overall revenues fell by 7.2%, from $255.4 million on table and slots games in January 2011, to $236.9 million in January 2012.

Table games are mainly responsible for the drop, decreasing by approximately 20% from last year to $72.2 million in January 2012. The hold percentage of casinos also dropped, from 17% to 15%.

Slot machine revenues remained largely unchanged at $164.7 million.

The drop comes after a busy December, when revenue increased by approximately 4% due to the unseasonably mild weather.
