Manitoba is the 4th Canadian Province to Legalize Online Gambling

The Canadian province Manitoba could be the fourth province in Canada to legalize and regulate internet gambling, following in the footsteps of Quebec, British Columbia, and soon Ontario.

Manitoba intends to partner with British Columbia and benefit from B.C.’s expertise and experience in the industry.  The actual partnership will occur between the provinces’ lottery corporations, Manitoba Lotteries Corporation (MLC) and British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC).  Based on the terms that have been outlined in the collaboration, BCLC will design, develop, test, and manage Manitoba’s gambling site.

A MLC spokesperson has said that the BCLC business model is the one that MLC believes is the most suitable for regulating internet gambling in Manitoba.  The Minister responsible for BCLC stated that BCLC is more than pleased to share their expertise with Manitoba, and is glad to help make regulated online gambling in the country stronger.

It is estimated that Manitoba’s online gambling website will bring the province $1.5 million in its initial year and approximately $17 million by 2018.
